Providing Students with an Industry Standard Education

Mon, 13 May, 2024

East Coast College Welding Academy is a college in the further and higher education sector with 433 staff members and 4500 students across various subjects. They are based at the Great Yarmouth campus, but also have a campus which includes a sixth form college, in Lowestoft.

Achieving certification was a pleasant process for East Coast College Welding Academy due to the support offered by TWI Certification Ltd (TWI CL) and its Company Certification team. Regular contact, through a variety of mediums, throughout the process made achieving their certification stress free. Douglas Lawrence, Lecturer and IQA, told us how he “enjoyed the challenge of gaining certification for the college as this has helped demonstrate the professionalism of [their] welding team at Great Yarmouth.”

The advantages of becoming a CSWTO Approved Centre has reinforced to the wider public that East Coast College Welding Academy is teaching to industry standard practices. This will enable local employers to visit East Coast College Welding Academy and take advantage of the training facilities onsite to meet their staff’s development needs.

Douglas says that “the advantages for our students will be tremendous, as they will be trained and qualified to an industry recognised standard.” As a CSWTO Approved organisation, East Coast College Welding Academy have demonstrated that its equipment, facilities, and personnel are competent and qualified to meet industry requirements. This provides assurance to current and future students that the learning they undertake with East Coast College Welding Academy has been assessed by an independent third party and deemed to meet the high standards of the Certification Scheme for Welder Training Organisations.

This reinforces that the staff constantly value training and continued professional development to enhance the student experience. It is important for students to know that the investment they are making, by using East Coast College Welding Academy as their education provider, is backed by industry recognised tutors, who have the skills and knowledge to take them to the next stage of their careers.

Both of the trainers at East Coast College Welding Academy will be looking to gain the CSWIP Visual Welding Inspector certification next, and then the CSWIP Welding Inspector certification later. Following that, the CSWIP Welding Quality Control Coordinator would also enhance both the CSWTO and academic side of the trainers’ education. Again, this would assist in demonstrating good audit control practices and professionalism within their welding academy.

More information about the company certifications available through company certification at TWI CL can be found our website.

Many thanks to everyone involved, especially John, who made us feel completely at ease throughout the whole process
