Katie Ellis: TWI CLs newest recruit

Mon, 24 April, 2023

A Yorkshire lass born and bred, Katie Ellis, brings an incredible work ethic, an unflappable nature, and a wicked sense of humour to TWI Certification Ltd (TWI CL). Having only joined TWI CL in October 2022, Katie has very quickly become a firm favourite of customers and colleagues alike, with no small thanks to her can-do attitude and infectious joie de vivre.

As a company certification officer, Katie’s role is to support the clients of our Company Certification section, as they progress through the reassessment process to maintain their certification. Katie is instrumental in ensuring that assessments are planned, organised and conducted without incident, and then that post-assessment activities are completed in a timely (but compliant) manner. The main scheme that Katie is currently working on is our Welding Fabricator Certification Scheme (WFCS), which is written in accordance with ISO 3834. When advising clients Katie is quick to reiterate the importance of getting their documentation “completed fully, accurately and submitted in good time”, so that reassessments can be booked and there is less chance of being out of compliance. We asked Katie about the challenges of her role, and true to form, she tells us with a smile “I don’t have any right now, I am still learning them!”

While Katie may still be learning the challenges of her role, she has been with TWI CL long enough to learn about the benefits of certification, “showcases that an organisation is working to a high industry standard, which provides an advantage when bidding for work/contracts.” As a recent initiate into the world of certification, Katie has a unique viewpoint into the benefits of TWI CL as a Certification Body, as it’s an “industry recognised brand, that only uses Compliance Verification Engineers [as assessors], who have worked in industry and so have vast experience.”

But what brought Katie to the role at TWI CL in the first place?

With a background in the construction industry, Katie felt that her knowledge, skills and experience would transfer well into the engineering industry and the role advertised, while at the same time providing a new challenge and opportunity for her growth and development. However, this isn’t the sole reason Katie decided to accept a job at TWI CL, it was the team that sold it to her. She told us “meeting the team at my second interview really convinced me that working for TWI CL was the right move.” This decision was confirmed as the right choice, and her delight in her team cemented, during her most memorable moment (to date) where her colleague Jamie, made a comment so funny that it had not only Katie in tears of laughter but her colleague Sarah as well!
