78th IIW Annual Assembly and International Conference

In beautiful Genoa, Italy, with over 2,000 attendees from 49 countries, the International Institute of Welding’s (IIW) 78th Annual Assembly and International Conference took place from 22nd – 27th June 2025. Hosted by the Italian Institute of Welding, supported by the IIW Secretariat and IAB Management Team, and held in conjunction with the Italian Institute of Welding’s ‘Italian National Welding Days’, allowed a wide range of parallel sessions to be undertaken for the benefit of all participants. The idyllic location combined with the high level of technical excellence of speakers and discussions made for a remarkable event.

TWI Cert holds the unique position as the UK Authorised Nominated Body (ANB) and Authorised Nominated Body for Company Certification (ANBCC). Attendance at the Annual Assembly ensures that the qualifications and certifications that are delivered by TWI Cert remain compliant with IIW requirements and continue to meet the needs of industry.

TWI Certification Ltd (TWI Cert) was proud to be represented at the event by its Head of Company Certification, Emma Freckingham. Emma is the UK ANB Chief Executive and ANBCC Scheme Manager, requiring her attendance and vote in the International Authorisation Board (IAB) meetings. These IAB meetings cover a range of areas and serve a variety of purposes. With discussions and decisions on everything from education and training, to certification and the management of the IAB itself. Not only this, but Emma also serves on Committee XVIII as Chair of sub-committee C (Quality Management Standards). In this capacity. Emma presented on the ISO 22688 standard (Brazing – Quality requirements for brazing of metallic materials) as well as contributing to the production of a guidance document for confirming competence of auditing personnel in welding and allied processes. These meetings are crucial in discussing the management and delivery of the various qualifications and certifications offered by IIW, namely the Welding Coordinator Diploma, the Personnel Certification Scheme, and the ISO 3834 – Certification of Manufacturers Scheme.

TWI Cert is committed to remaining a key member of the IIW and working with our international colleagues to continue delivering a high standard of education and certification within the welding industry.
