Bridmet, a Dorset based company offering turnkey services in the manufacturing of metal components and assemblies, has not only increased the scope of its certification with TWI CL, but was also one of the first companies to undergo a remote audit – a new procedure introduced by TWI CL during COVID-19 to facilitate assessments while complying with social distancing measures.
Seeking to increase their certification with TWI CL during a pandemic, when it may have been simpler or easier to maintain their current schedule and wait for things to return to “normal”, was “a bit daunting” says Bridmet Welding Coordinator, Steve Carnell, “but the resources and assistance from TWI CL, and mutual commitment from Bridmet, made it a smooth transition.”
The decision to gain certification with TWI CL was an easy choice for Bridmet, for two reasons. The first; it enabled them to increase the scope of work they conducted for key clients. These clients were impressed by the quality of Bridmet's work, but required a manufacturer to be compliant with EN 15085 before they could increase the scope of work they sent Bridmet’s way. The second reason was the great working relationship Steve already had with TWI CL and the greater TWI group. Having utilised TWI CL in a previous role, to gain certification in accordance with ISO 3834 (through TWI CL’s Welding Fabricator Certification Scheme (WFCS)), choosing them again was “the obvious choice, as I trust and respect their experience, ethics and advice that they are always happy to share.”
Certification has not only placed Bridmet in a very competitive position and increased their ability to attract business from wider industry sectors; it has also provided benefits to their employees. Their increased market share means that their staff are continually developed and trained, with some gaining personnel certification such as welder qualifications in compliance with ISO 9606. Their focus on training apprentices has even led them to being voted the winner of the Industry Apprenticeship Training Award from the Dorset Echo.
So what is next for the organisation who seems to have it all? Why more certifications of course! Next on Steve’s list is certification in compliance with EN 1090, which can be provided through TWI CL’s Conformity Assessment of the Execution of Steel and Aluminium Structures (CAESAS) Scheme. By being certified under CAESAS, Bridmet will be able to expand on the fabrications they manufacture for clients, thereby providing them with the ability to use Bridmet for the full scope of their manufacturing needs.
