CSWIP Insight: Paul George

Fri, 27 August, 2021

Having already established himself within industry, Paul George came to TWI CL in order to further his knowledge and career, and to seize the opportunity to work with a highly-regarded and established team of engineers. Now approaching his seventh year with TWI CL, there is very little Paul, our senior verification and welding engineer, does not know about the welding certifications available from TWI CL.

As a senior verification and welding engineer, Paul’s role is varied and keeps him on his toes. Responsible for the writing, review and approval of TWI CL’s examination database, the provision and endorsement of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs), and Welding Procedure Qualification Records (WPQRs) as well as the conducting of End Point Assessments (EPAs), Paul is constantly reviewing standards, regulations and guidelines, to ensure best practice and that he delivers welding certification to the high standards expected by TWI CL customers. Although, the changes to regulations and standards are a regular challenge for Paul, it is all worth it for him because of the interactions he gets to have with his colleagues and customers. For Paul, the best part of his role is working with people, as they are from a myriad of areas within industry, which makes every day different and every enquiry unique.

When it comes to his most asked question, it is always, “how much?”, but due to the bespoke nature of the services provided by TWI CL, this is always the most difficult question to answer. With costs depending on the scope, location and number of certifications required, costs are very specific to each individual client. However, Paul is quick to assure all customers that, once this information is received and TWI CL is tasked with providing a service, it is to the highest standard. For him, TWI CL certifications are second to none, offering a service that is not only value for money and expedient, but comes from a team of well trained, knowledgeable and approachable individuals, all of whom do their best to assist customers with their certification needs.

Having held himself and TWI CL’s certifications to such high standards, it is no surprise that Paul considers certification so important, as, “welding certifications are built around the processes for different weld-types in different materials in a host of different positions using many different processes, gaining certification to undertake this will not only prove your welders skill but your company’s ability to meet the highest standards of quality required.” For those who have already gained certification, or seeking it, Paul advises that you, “use it wisely and look after it…[as]… that certification will eventually pay for itself and any further future certification you may desire.”
