Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)

The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) is a verification scheme overseen by employer organisations and unions representing the breadth of industry. TWI Certification Ltd are authorised to issue CSCS cards by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), to CSWIP Certificate holders who wish to work on construction sites in the UK.

A CSWIP CSCS card is proof of your knowledge and skills in the CSWIP Scheme you are certified in. Most principle contractors and major house builders within the UK require construction workers on their sites to hold a valid CSCS card.

How to Apply

Current holders of CSWIP Certificates should complete the CSCS application form and return it, along with a copy of your current Site Safety certificate to cscspartner@twi.co.uk. If you do not currently hold a Site Safety certificate then you must complete and pass the ‘Test for Operatives’ through the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).

Coded Welder certificate holders should send a copy of their certificate along with a copy of their current Site Safety certificate (if already held) to cscspartner@twi.co.uk and we will advise further.

If you do not have a current CSWIP Certificate or a Coded Welder certificate then please email copies of your relevant qualifications and Site Safety certificate (if already held) to cscspartner@twi.co.uk and we will advise further.

If you are job trained, and do not hold any formal qualifications or certifications, you have two options to gain a CSWIP CSCS card:

  1. Sit the appropriate CSWIP course and examination in order to gain a CSWP Certificate and then a CSWIP CSCS card. For information on training courses available in the UK, please see the CSWIP website.
  1. Those seeking CSCS Approved Welder cards can contact one of our recognised venues to organise their Welder Qualification. CSCS cards are only issued to those who have successfully completed a Job Knowledge test and to those holding a welder qualification certificate issued by a Recognised Third Party Organisation (RTPO). For a list of recognised venues please email cscspartner@twi.co.uk.

Please note: We only offer CSCS cards to applicants who are currently certified under a CSWIP scheme. If your job role is not covered by any of the schemes listed then please contact CSCS directly - www.cscs.uk.com – for further guidance.

In addition, CSWIP is unable to offer CSCS cards to applicants who hold:

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Sub-structure Work Occupations(Construction) - Installation of Gas Membranes  or similar qualification
  • Employer Apprenticeship (City and Guilds craft/advanced craft and proof of apprenticeship completion)
  • Approved Apprenticeship (for example, completion proof of SBATC / NJCBI)

Holders of the above qualifications are advised to contact CSCS directly in the first instance. If CSCS are unable to issue you a card, please email us on cscspartner@twi.co.uk and we will endeavour to assist further.

It is possible to participate in onsite CSWIP approved welder tests via our CSCS partner organisation Code A Weld. Please contact Code A Weld directly for details.
